Humboldt County Republican Party
HUMBOLDT COUNTY PLATFORM
The Republican Party of Humboldt County, Nevada submits the following ten items as our Platform of Principles and action items at the state and national levels:
We support the Mining Law of 1872 and the Taylor Grazing Act and multiple uses of public lands. We support adoption of the item on mining submitted by Elko County.
We urge adoption of a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution to include line item veto power for the President. Excluded would be legally declared national emergency or legally declared war.
Eliminate recent congressional excessive spending. Eliminate "earmark" spending. Eliminate unfunded mandates. Eliminate the "death tax". Make the Bush tax cuts permanent. Review all federal social services programs for elimination due to inefficiencies.
To accomplish energy independence from foreign oil, we urge development of nuclear electric generation and all other technologies. Permit oil and gas drilling on ANWAR and all other federal lands.
Medical care must remain on a free-market system. The government has proven unable to fund Social Security and Medicare. Extending government medical care to a wider population would prove disastrous financially and administratively.
The Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is an individual right and not a collective right. If the Supreme Court decides otherwise, congressional action must quickly re-establish this fact.
Whereas the Constitution and Bill of Rights have established legal precedents for our nation, we urge the appointment of federal judges who will make decisions based on these documents without activist interpretation.
We urge the Nevada Legislature to return to a primary election system to include national presidential candidates. Eliminate the caucus system that was not observed in local areas until this year.
The federal government must immediately secure our borders. Deport all indicted alien criminals. Establish and enforce a procedure including English language fluency and tests of cultural knowledge for gaining citizenship within firm time limits. Eliminate automatic citizenship for children of illegal immigrants. Maintain the current guest-worker program.
Special interests with ulterior motives have misused the Endangered Species Act to threaten rural industries and the rural lifestyle. We request a complete public analysis of economic impacts and local government authority over future listings of species under this act. The act can be continued with modifications.
